Brewing Supply
Brewing in America is as old as the country itself. Up until about the late 19th century, most of the beer was produced and distributed only locally by small breweries. Often, these small breweries were family businesses opened and owned by Northern European immigrants. Northwestern Extract began as a brewing supply business that served those small town local breweries with flavorings, extracts, equipment and supplies. As our company grew, we also began to cater to local, larger, Milwaukee brewers such as Pabst, Blatz, Gettelman, and Miller. Over time these breweries, and larger brewers like them, began to absorb and replace the smaller local breweries. Prohibition was the final nail in the proverbial coffin for these smaller breweries.
Craft Brewing Supply
Beginning in the mid 1980's, the craft brewing industry started to focus on flavor and quality instead of mass production. As this market has grown, Northwestern Extract is proud to be back to our roots and at the heart of brewing supply with premium flavors and supplies. Our expertise in the brewing supply industry allows us to provide exceptional service to independent businesses and business people. Northwestern Extracts has, and continues to, provide brewing supply products with the type of insights that add to a brewers bottom line. As this industry expands into producing specialty, seasonal flavored brews, Northwestern Extract is uniquely positioned in the brewing supply market to help craft brewers attain their business goals.
Home Brewing Supply
Homebrewing has been going on for thousands of years. Its growth was limited by Federal and state restrictions which were generally lifted in 1978. Homebrew retailers are springing up all over the country to service this burgeoning cottage industry. Northwestern Extract supplies the same quality product, expertise, and customer service, just as they do for all brewers, only in smaller quantities.

Mead Liquors
The Drink of the Gods, mead has a long history. It may well be the oldest recorded fermented beverage. Mead figures prominently in the tales of Scandinavia and the Vikings. The Celts were drinking it in 500 A.D. There are indications that the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Ethiopians, Incas and Aztec used mead, both in festivals and as a religious drink. Honey, and by association, mead, have been attributed with such powers as that of an aphrodisiac, and it has been said in times gone by that it imbues the drinker with attributes such as life, wisdom, courage and strength. Enjoy Mead Liqueur (also known as Ambrosia)– a true descendant of the Drink of the Gods.
Flavored Liquor
Flavored liquors consist of alcoholic beverages with additives of different flavors and sugar. The big difference between flavored liquors and liqueurs is the sugar content, and it might also contain glycerine. Most flavored liquors also contain a base of vodka or white rum, or they may have a tequila or brandy base. In most cases, the flavored liquors contain a fruit extract and in some cases a sugar syrup base is added.
At Northwest Extraction, we provide a number of different flavored liquors.
